Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap was one of the first things that I started making myself when I decided to become a homesteader.  I liked knowing that it is EXTREMELY cheap to make and doesn’t contain any added syntheticHomemade Liquid Laundry Soapc perfumes that make my clothes smell and my nose go crazy.

This recipe for homemade liquid laundry soap is great for both the traditional and energy efficient washing machines.    As you can see from the pictures, I have tweaked the recipe until I found something that worked for me.   That is the best thing about being a homesteader…you must be part mad-scientist when crafting homemade recipes.   Try my recipe first, but if it doesn’t work for you, tweak it.

Homemade Powder Laundry Soap

One of the best money saving things you can do as a homesteader, is make your own laundry soap.  I know I do many loads of laundry a week and I would bet you do too, and purchasing and using the Name Brand detergent ads up quick!

Here is a quick, easy, and inexpensive recipe for powdered laundry detergent that works well in both traditional top loaders and newer front load Energy Efficient washing machines.  Just place 2 tablespoons of powder in each load of laundry.  For softer clothes, ditch your fabric softener, and pour 1 cup of white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment of your washing machine.

First grate the Felz-Naptha using the fine grating side of your grater (that way it mixes better with the rest of the stuff).  Now grab a big bowl and combine all ingredients into it and stir well.  Transfer to container of your choice to put in the laundry room.  I use a recycled Folgers coffee can, it fits a double batch perfectly!   For every load of laundry, use 2 Tablespoons.
